Learning Outcomes

According to the Internal Regulation of Studies of the Inter-Institutional Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program titled “Water Resources and Ecological Engineering”, postgraduate students graduate after having:

  • Attended and successfully been assessed in all courses of the J.P.P. (17 courses if the second semester is carried out at Adam Mickiewicz University or 13 courses if it is carried out at Avignon University)
  • Successfully completed the internship if the second semester is carried out at Avignon University
  • Successfully completed and been assessed in the Master’s thesis
  • Accumulated 120 credit units (ECTS)

The aim of the Program “Water Resources Engineering and Ecological Engineering” is to provide specialized theoretical and research-oriented knowledge in the internationally and rapidly evolving scientific field of Water Resources Engineering – Ecological Engineering, which has a strong social impact, as well as to provide specialized practical training.

In particular, the Master’s Programme focuses on linking theory with practice, promoting collaboration between different scientific fields, with the ultimate goal of developing specialized professionals who will be able to effectively respond to the challenges of the modern era in the fields of water resources management and ecological engineering.

Upon completion of their studies, postgraduate students will be able to:

  • Possess knowledge in all subfields of Water Resources Engineering and Ecological Engineering (e.g. impacts of climate change on droughts and floods, sustainability of water resources, sanitary engineering, management of inland and coastal water bodies, the water–energy–food nexus, fluid mechanics, conflicts and water policy, etc.)
  • Study surface and groundwater resources, including dependent ecosystems
  • Monitor inland and coastal water bodies using traditional and modern monitoring tools
  • Design wastewater treatment systems and drinking water purification systems
  • Use spatial databases and modern mathematical modelling tools
  • Demonstrate basic research skills in the scientific field of Water Resources Engineering and Ecological Engineering and acquire the necessary competencies that will enable them to continue their professional careers
  • Work independently and apply and develop integrated water resources management methods
  • Critically examine issues related to water resource assessment using the most innovative methods and techniques of Water Resources Engineering
  • Evaluate the quantitative and qualitative status of water resources
  • Design and implement systems and technologies for water efficiency, water reuse, and recovery of useful substances
  • Apply theories, methodologies, and innovative techniques in order to protect water systems and mitigate impacts in water engineering
  • Respond successfully and, above all, flexibly to the demands of the contemporary working environment, and prepare studies related to integrated water resources management, restoration of aquatic systems, and wastewater treatment
  • Demonstrate respect for environmental protection, the principles of the circular economy, and human health
